Drinking from a Fire Hose

Oh my word.  I'm pretty sure I just wrapped up the most overwhelming and challenging year of my life.  This school year I army-crawled my way through Reading Recovery training, teaching first grade for the first time, feeling my way around a new team of teachers, sharing a classroom (which sounds easier than it truly is), and stepping into a new role at school as a Reading Recovery teacher. Throw in all of this on top of my mommy, wife, and household duties and I'm not kidding when I say I feel like I was drinking from a fire hose the entire school year.  It was a totally different kind of drowning feeling than I typically feel at stressful points of the school year.  I was dropping balls left and right - for the simple fact that it was virtually impossible to keep them all in the air.  I'm not complaining, I know I am immensely blessed and I am so thankful - and as difficult as it was I know I have grown more this year, professionally and personally, than in all the last 10 years combined.
RR training was a beast, but I am in awe of the program and what it can do for the kids who need the most help and I am truly honored to be a part of it.  As the school year wrapped up, it felt as if the weight of the world was lifting from my shoulders.  And now...it's summer break!!  We kicked off our summer as we have done so for the past couple of years - a trip to GJ's house!   More to come about this...I'm so glad I'll have the time to blog again!  Believe it or not, I've kind of missed it...
